It seems like it was just yesterday that the college football season ended as Michigan topped Washington in the national title game in Houston. When the game ended, the worst time of the year began for college football fans: the dreaded offseason. Nearly eight months without college football. It feels like it just started, but we have somehow already made it to May. The weather is getting warmer, and we are getting closer to football season. Spring football just concluded for Ohio State football, and Buckeyes fans can’t wait for the 2024 season to roll around.

Spring football is one of the best times of the college football offseason as a sense of hope comes to every fan base around the country. It’s exciting to see your team in action in the first time, even though it’s just a scrimmage. You started to see the roster taking shape and projected depth charts start trickling out. Spring football is the first sign of the season, and now that it’s over, college football fans are really in the home stretch. The cold winter months are tough to survive without football, but the excitement that comes with spring football makes everything easier. There is still a ways to go before the new season, but it is coming.

This next season of college football is going to be an exciting one, and there are a ton of reasons to be looking forward to it. There are a lot of changes coming to the game like rule changes, coaching changes, conference changes and playoff changes. Perhaps the most intriguing part of the new season will be the new conferences. The Pac-12 is gone, and the Big Ten and SEC are going to be loaded. They both seem to be on the verge of forming super conferences.

The SEC will be welcoming Texas and Oklahoma to the conference next year, and the Big Ten is getting a good crop of Pac-12 teams as USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington are all joining the conference. Both the Big Ten and the SEC are going to be absolutely loaded next year, and it seems like more schools will potentially join the conferences in the future.

Next season, the College Football Playoff will look different as well as it is expanding to 12 teams. There will also be first round games on college campuses. More teams will have a chance to make the CFP, and there will be more games. It’s going to be fun.

Ohio State football is a national title contender

One team that has extremely high expectations heading into the 2024 season is Ohio State football. The Buckeyes are returning a ton of talent from last season, and a lot of those players were expected to go pro. Ohio State has also already hit the transfer portal hard and they have one of the best classes in the country. There’s no doubt about it, the talent is there for this team to win a national title. Then again, not having talent hasn’t been the issue for this team the past few years.

Ohio State football head coach Ryan Day has a ton of pressure on him this season. The Buckeyes have failed to beat rival Michigan and win the Big Ten each of the last three seasons, and if that happens again with this roster, Day’s job could be in jeopardy. The Wolverines have lost just about everything, coach and player-wise, from last year’s national title team, so this has to be the year for Ohio State, right?

The Buckeyes have cleaned up in the transfer portal, but when a lot of talented newcomers come in, that means that some players are going to leave as well. When guys see that it’s going to be difficult to earn a starting role, they sometimes enter the transfer portal and decide to test their luck elsewhere. Ohio State did lose some more players in the spring transfer portal window, and here is one that is especially disappointing.

Kyion Grayes, wide receiver

One Ohio State football player that recently entered the transfer portal is wide receiver Kyion Grayes. Grayes signed with Ohio State back in 2021 and enrolled in 2022, and his career with the Buckeyes didn’t go the way that anyone expected, and that is why it’s so disappointing for Ohio State fans to see it end with a transfer portal departure.

Kyion Grayes came to Ohio State as a very highly-ranked four-star recruit. He was the #63 prospect in the class of 2022 according to 247 Sports, the #8 WR and the #2 player in the state of Arizona. He played his high school football at Chandler High School in Chandler, Arizona.

Ohio State football is often regarded as WRU, as in go play for the Buckeyes if you want to be one of the best WRs in college football. Ohio State has had an absurd line of WRs come through the program in recent years. Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, Marvin Harrison JR., Jaxon Smith-Njigba just to name a few. Because of that, every WR recruit that is ranked as high as Kyion Grayes gets crazy expectations from the fan base. The Buckeyes have a lot of talented WRs that will be on the roster next season, but Grayes will not be one of them as he is looking for a new home in the transfer portal.

Grayes did not get much action during his time at Ohio State as he caught one pass for two yards back in the 2022 season. That was his first and last reception as a WR for the Buckeyes.

It is unfortunate that Grayes’ Ohio State career is coming to a close after he came in with big expectations, but this won’t really affect the Buckeyes next season. They are big transfer portal winners this offseason and they have a ton of talent at WR.

Ohio State football is going to be a fun team to watch next year, and they will once again have one of the best teams in college football. The Buckeyes will be disappointed if they come short of a national title, however. It’s an all or nothing type season.
