Tyus Jones on Why He’s Open to Re-Sign With the Washington Wizards in 2024 Free Agency: ‘My Family and I Love DC’

“They’ve (Washington Wizards management) said from the beginning: ‘We want you here. The plan is for you to be here long term, and when we get to that bridge, we’ll cross it.'” Jones said via Ava Wallace of The Washington Post.

“Anything can happen, but (my family and I) love D.C. We want to be here, and I want to help this team continue to build and move in the right direction. The plan is to be a starter. I feel like I’m just at the tip of the iceberg, for sure,” he added.

Tyus Jones served as a backup point guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Memphis Grizzlies in the first eight seasons of his NBA career. Before joining the Washington Wizards as a full-time starter, the 27-year-old floor general started in 94 regular-season games.

Tyus Jones played and started 66 regular-season games for the Washington Wizards this season, averaging career-highs of 12.0 points, 7.3 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game while shooting 48.9 percent from the field and 41.4 percent from three-point range, making him one of the brightest spots in the Washington Wizards 2023-24 roster.

The team is in a rebuilding phase as they finished with their worst record in franchise history at 15-67, but the front office is not keen on letting him walk away, at least for now.

The Washington Wizards had the chance to trade him during the February trade deadline, but rival teams were unwilling to give them a first-round draft pick for the 27-year-old.

If he re-signs with the team this summer, Tyus Jones will continue to be one of the team’s core players alongside Jordan Poole, Kyle Kuzma, and Deni Avdija.
