Eagles challenge punter with UDFA

Arryn Siposs switched his jersey to No. 10 so that Marcus Mariota could wear No. 8 again. It’s a nice gesture from Philadelphia’s incumbent punter, but without a good offseason, an undrafted free agent from Kansas State could have his number.

Philadelphia has agreed to terms with Ty Zentner, a free-agent kicker/punter from Kansas State. According to Glenn Kinley of KSNT.com, the Eagles are the team Zentner hoped to join all along.

“Great coaches and one of their core values is connecting and being able to develop people,” he said. “That’s something that I really like and I think they got a lot of great people over there in their organization so I’m excited to get over there.”

Maybe it's a coincidence, but the Eagles were the only team to send him a hat.

Zentner averaged 44.5 yards on 59 punts last season with a long of 72 yards. He didn’t miss a field goal or extra point for the Wildcats all year, but with Jake Elliott already on the team, Philadelphia will look for him to challenge Siposs for the starting punter position.

Siposs has been inconsistent since joining the Eagles in 2021, and his performance in Super Bowl LVII far from good. While most Eagles fans will point to James Bradberry’s holding call as the game’s pivotal moment, a terrible punt by Siposs certainly didn’t help.

Facing a 4th-and-2 at their own 32-yard line and trailing by a point early in the fourth quarter, Philadelphia decided to punt the ball. Siposs responded by shanking a 38-yard kick to the Chiefs’ Kadarius Toney who answered with a Super Bowl record, 65-yard return to the Eagles’ 5-yard line. It didn't decide the game, but it put the Eagles down eight points with time running out.

Siposs needs to have a strong camp. Even in the middle of what many consider the best draft of 2023, Eagles fans were begging for a punter on social media. If Zentner has a good summer, he might never take off the hat.
