NFL Insider Drops Bombshell Report On Patriots, No. 3 Pick
Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY Sports

The New England Patriots are in dire need of a quarterback, but their requirements extend beyond just that position. Speculation looms over whether they will retain their No. 3 pick in the NFL Draft or opt to trade back to fortify their roster with additional talent.

While uncertainties persist, newly appointed head coach Jerod Mayo has indicated a willingness to explore various avenues. While securing a quarterback remains a priority, Mayo emphasized the team’s openness to creative strategies.

Despite the Patriots’ intentions, there’s strong indication that Drake Maye is the frontrunner for the No. 3 pick, as noted by NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Schefter confirmed on ESPN that the Patriots hold a high regard for Maye and would select him if they opt to retain their position in the draft.

However, other teams have also expressed interest in acquiring Maye, with the Minnesota Vikings emerging as particularly aggressive suitors. Schefter highlighted the Vikings’ interest, noting that they possess the option to start Sam Darnold for a season while allowing Maye to develop.

Notably, Maye has a connection with Vikings quarterback coach Josh McCown, who coached him during his high school years.

Anticipating the Vikings’ proactive approach, Schefter suggested that they are unlikely to remain at their current No. 11 pick and may maneuver to secure a quarterback.

Whether Maye lands with the New England Patriots or in Minnesota, all signs point to him being the third overall pick in the upcoming draft on April 25th.
