Seattle Seahawks Standout Rookie From Last Season Has Knee Surgery; Out Until Training Camp
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Seahawks are looking to build upon last season’s success. A big reason for the success was the play of the 2022 rookie class. Both tackles on the offensive line held up well and the defensive rookies played great. One of those rookies, Tariq Woolen, just underwent knee surgery and will be out until training camp.

Seattle Seahawks Tariq Woolen Has Knee Surgery

Woolen underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Tuesday after injuring his knee during OTAs last week. He is expected to be ready once training camp rolls around but expect the Seahawks to be very careful with their star cornerback. He had six interceptions last season which was tied for the league lead. The Seahawks need him to make another jump in order to solidify their defense. They have invested heavily in the position and seem to be trying to recreate the Legion of Boom.

Investing In Cornerback

With the fifth overall pick in the 2023 draft, they took Devon Witherspoon the cornerback out of the University of Illinois. If Witherspoon is as advertised, he and Woolen will create a great young cornerback duo. The weakness of Seattle last season was their defense. They gave up a lot of yards, especially through the air. If the offense can duplicate the success from last season, the Seahawks should take a step forward, especially in a weak NFC conference.

Tariq Woolen having knee surgery is not the news Seattle Seahawks fans wanted to hear. However, it is good that the issue is being taken care of now rather than lingering into the season. He has three to four months to get himself healthy before the actual games start. While having him at practice would be great, the team will most likely not risk his long-term health for short-term gains.
