AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli suggests Inter Milan should have won more Serie A titles over their last four years due to their superior squad.

The Rossoneri fell short in Monday’s Derby della Madonnina, with the Nerazzurri prevailing by two goals to one.

This was enough to mathematically end the Serie A title, so Simone Inzaghi’s men celebrated unlocking the second star in front of their defeated rivals.

Therefore Pioli admitted that this result took its toll on him and his players.

“We cannot succumb following these disappointments that we have suffered and that we have caused to these fans,” said the 58-year-old in his press conference (via FcInterNews) on the eve of his team’s encounter against Juventus.

“Thus, we must have the desire to redeem ourselves and remain compact. We must also aim to win matches until the end of the campaign.

“We suffer from these situations, but we have the duty to get back up.”

Nevertheless, the Rossoneri manager directed a subtle dig towards his crosstown rivals. Pioli has been accused of failing to make the most out of his squad, but he claims Inter have also underachieved in recent years.

“We haven’t always managed to put our qualities on the field.

“But Inter have had the strongest team in the league for four years and have only won two Serie A titles.”

The former Lazio, Fiorentina and Inter coach has become synonymous with Derby della Madonnina shortcomings.

Therefore, he admits he would have done anything to change the outcome of these fixtures.

“I would give everything I have to change the result of the Derbies. But I can’t do anything about it now.

“I for one, must have broad shoulders. It was a great pain to see our rivals celebrate. But Inter were stronger and more solid.”
